Open Work Permits

Open Work Permits

Open work permits do not require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and have no conditions for a specific location or employer.

It is important to note that you will still be subject to the general conditions which are imposed on temporary residents by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.

The open work permit option is only available to foreign workers that meet the eligibility criteria. You can apply for the open work permit while you are outside Canada, at one of the ports of entry, or after arrival depending on your personal situation.

With the broader employment freedoms that an open work permit offers, it is important to research its impact on a potential permanent residence.
